Family History
Last year we paid a visit to the County Records Office to learn about the many and varied documents kept there. This was rated as one of the highlights of the year.
Last month one of our members presented an evening on her own family research which has now been published in two volumes. She managed to bring some of her ancestors to life with some amazing details including a murder, a hanging and births attributed to a man who had been dead for several years! On another evening six more members told us of their research outlining the delights when records could be found and the frustations when information proved difficult and confusing. There were more photographs, informative articles taken from obituaries or local magazines; some people had regained contact with long lost family members, at home and abroad, and discovered family property. It was interesting to hear about past employment and the highs and lows of family prosperity over the centuries. We even had a brush with royalty!!! There were smart presentation folders and ideas for storing information. Veronica told us about the numerous sites available on the internet and other prople added their knowledge.
So, to any group members, speak up if you have the question"where to go next" in your search for your ancestors, because there are members in the group with quite a bit of experience and who, without a doubt, will be able to point you in the right direction.
